Divergent finale ‘Ascendant’ found it’s director

The fourth and final film in the Divergent series will be directed by Lee Toland Krieger, who helmed last year’s Age of Adaline.

Ascendant (The Divergent Series: Allegiant Part 2) was set to be directed by Insurgent and Allegiant director Robert Schwentke until he decided to drop out of the fourth movie in January. THR had reported he left because he wanted to spend more time with his family in Los Angeles, after directing two Divergent movies in Atlanta, Georgia.

Unlike other book to film adaptations that split their final novel into two movies, filming for Ascendant did not occur concurrently with filming on Allegiant.

The splitting of the movies allowed for the change in directors. Not filming the films consecutively really has me concerned. This is the first time a young adult book adaptation has been split like this, and really is not giving me good feels. However, I am hoping the powers that be, know what they are doing.

Allegiant opens in theaters on March 18, 2016. Ascendant will open June 2017.

The first movie in the series was directed by Neil Burger.
