Lionsgate Stays With Director Robert Schwentke For Allegiant Part 1

The second movie in the “Divergent” series, “Insurgent” is still in post-production, but Lionsgate seems pretty confident in it’s director, Robert Schwentke. Variety is reporting that the company has decided to stay with the “RIPD” director for the third film in the series titled, “Allegiant Part 1.” “Insurgent” is set for wide release on March 20th of next year and “Allegiant Part 1” on March 18, 2016. The tight filming schedule was reportedly the reason director, Neil Burger, who was at the helm for the first film, “Divergent,” left the series.

“Divergent” is based on the young adult series by author Veronica Roth. The first film grossed $151 million domestically and another $138 million internationally for Lionsgate. Stars Theo James, Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller and Kate Winslett will return for “Insurgent” and be joined by Octavia Spencer and Naomi Watts among others.
