Theo James Film ‘The Secret Scripture’ Gets Early 2016 Oscar Buzz

Is it too early to speculate on the 2016 Academy Awards? We don’t think so when it involves our favorite actor, Theo James! The Huffington Post has put together a list of ten book to movie adaptations they believe will vie for Oscar next year and Theo’s latest project, “The Secret Scripture” is among them.

And why not? Director Jim Sheridan has been nominated six times for the golden statue for “In America,” “In The Name Of The Father” and “My Left Foot.” Star Rooney Mara, who plays Roseanne, got a Best Actress In A Leading Role nomination in 2012 for “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.” The legendary Vanessa Redgrave, who will play Roseanne in her later years, took home an Academy Award for Best Actress In A Supporting Role for “Julia” back in 1978. Also starring alongside Theo are the very talented Eric Bana, Jack Reynor, Aidan Turner and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor.

“The Secret Scripture” is the adaptation of Sebastian Barry’s James Tait Black Memorial Prize winning novel. It tells the story of Roseanne, a woman of around one hundred years old who has spent most of her life in a mental hospital. As the institution that has been her home for so long is scheduled to be destroyed, it falls upon Dr. Grene (Eric Bana) to decide if Roseanne is truly mentally ill or a victim of Ireland’s political and religious conflicts. While Roseanne scrounges scraps of paper to write her own version of her life story, Dr. Grene reviews her file and finds that often the truth of a person’s life depends on the teller. Father Gaunt (Theo James) is the local Catholic Priest and he has a devastating effect on the life of Roseanne.

Theo’s role as Father Gaunt is very important to the story and should prove an interesting and challenging role for the British actor. We certainly hope the Oscar buzz surrounding this project continues and just maybe we’ll see Theo James at The 2016 Academy Awards!
