In an interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz, Veronica Roth talks ‘Four’ in ‘Four: A Divergent Collection’ and how deconstructing him in order to write a story from his P.O.V. makes him somehow, in her own opinion, less sexy. I don’t think that’s even possible, but read the article below and watch the video for Veronica’s take on this.

Readers of Veronica Roth’s “Divergent” series — and viewers of its big screen adaptation — know that you can call its male lead Four many things, but “not sexy” certainly isn’t one of them.

However, Roth herself told MTV News that her short story collection, “Four: A Divergent Collection,” aims to untangle the complicated web that is Tobias “Four” Eaton, and in the process, it makes him a little less sexy.

“He’s sort of a mysterious figure,” she explains. “Even throughout the [original ‘Divergent’] series, we’re always learning his secrets. When you actually get inside his head, he’s not nearly as sexy and mysterious as he sounds.”

Which doesn’t mean he’s not interesting, of course. The collection — which consists of five stories — begins two years before the events of “Divergent” at Four’s initiation into the Dauntless faction, so he’s much younger and less hardened than the man we (and Tris) meet later on.

“He’s an unsure person, who is going through a very difficult time and has to decide what he’s going to do in these very challenging situation,” she continued. “It demystifies him and makes him more human.”

That’s great and all, but what about those of us who were obsessed with the older, not-as-human version of Four? You know, the one who fell in love with Tris? Well, never fear — because for one, it’s very un-Dauntless of you, but also because the final story, “The Traitor,” catches up with “Divergent” and tells part of the love story through Four’s (sexy) eyes.

“The best part of writing the collection was getting to know him as a person, and not just as a love interest,” Roth concluded.

Fair. But also — swoon.

Do you have your copy of ‘Four’ yet? What are you waiting for? I promise you it’s worth it.
